Mr. Hopkins
Fourth Grade Teacher

Mr. Derrick A. Hopkins (Elementary Teacher) is in his seventh year teaching at the elementary level at Willsboro Central School .  Prior to WCS, he taught sixth, seventh, and eighth grade science at St. John’s Academy .  Mr. Hopkins attended Clinton Community College where he received an associated degree in Humanities and Social Sciences.  While there, he was active in the Drama Club, Student Senate (Vice-President), Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (President), Student Activities, and College President Student Advisory Board.  He was honored by being named to the USA-Today All Academic Team and was the recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.  Mr. Hopkins completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education from SUNY Plattsburgh.  While there, he was active in the music department, participating in Cardinal Singers, College Chorale, Symphonic Band, Saxophone Ensemble, and studied private voice.  In his senior year, he was featured in the opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors.  Aside from teaching, Mr. Hopkins is the advisor to the Drama Club, where musicals are his passion.  Outside of school, he has directed, performed, and/or assisted in over forty theatrical productions.  Some of his directorial credits include South Pacific (starring Broadway performers Leslie & George Hearn), Company, The Wizard of Oz, The King and I, Cabaret, West Side Story, Chicago, Into the Woods, and Grease to name a few.  Stage credits include Horton the Elephant in Seussical, a gangster in Kiss Me Kate, and Mary Sunshine in Chicago .  One of his greatest honors came in November of 2006 when he was invited to participate in a workshop reading of The Princess Bride, which earned him acceptance into Actors’ Equity, the union for professional actors.
